Three Vision Rivers - Mixed Media Manifestations
What if I created Vision Rivers instead of Vision Boards?
A Flow of Manifestations.
For the past three New Moons I've dropped into a new kind of Visioning process. Instead of creating a Vision Board, which had become stale after creating so many over the past several years, I felt inspired to create Vision Rivers. At the Beginning of the year I made the radical decision to make something other than a vision board.
I contemplated making weavings or dances, making one collage to return to over and over again, or cutting up old boards to reinvigorate my lingering desires. You can read about my inspirations in my post about Calla Lily. In the end I decided to make Rivers. Specifically working with the images and goddess energies of the Rivers that flowed through the lands I can trace my ancestors to, both my immediate family, and further back along my family lines. The idea came to me in a trickle and then a flood while listening to the podcast Flowing Wonder: Wisdom of Rivers by the Antelered Path. I dove into research and knew I would start with River Lee, the river of my last name.

New Moon in Pisces 2/27/25
The River Lee and Fae Goddess Clíodhna
The River Lee runs around and through the city of Cork where my Paternal Great Grandfathers were born and lived before immigrating to Glasgow during the Great Irish Migration for work. I projected a historic image of the river onto a beautiful piece of handmade paper, cutting carefully the flowing lines. I have quite the stash of stunning papers that I have collected over the decades, so I was thrilled to start a project that felt worthy of their use.
Unlike previous vision boards, where I would diligently collect words and images inspired by my current wishes and goals, these new visions were more about capturing a feeling. I was broken open creatively with the dynamic experience of creating on such a strange substrate with so many beautiful bits and pieces I had collected over the years. There are quotes from friends, faeries from birthday cards, ephemera from sacred projects and art explorations that I deconstructed, and off cuts from the Beauty Oracle. I was inspired by some maximalist junk journals I had seen on Pinterest, but the end product is much more my own style.

The Goddess Clíodhna
I knew early on in the project that I wanted to discover Goddesses or figures from myth associated with each river. For the River Lee this was straightforward, leading my to the Fae Queen Goddess Clíodhna. I was immediately enchanted by her presence. Like so many Irish Deities she has many faces, evolving over time to survive changes in culture. She has been a Goddess, Protectress, Daughter of the Sea, Banshee, and most notably a Faerie Queen.
Art Rituals
Woven through the paper and glitter there are several art rituals that I completed over the course of the month. One goal was to remove blocks and chains from myself and from my ancestral story. Inspired by the stories of the Nine Waves of Clíodhna I placed nine printed Keys next to nine cut stones. I didn't need to know what the stones represented or how the keys would unlock/unblock the scenarios, I was simply setting the intention.
At the Full Moon I completed my Selkie Charm. The Fae Queen Clíodhna is not inherently linked to any Selkie stories, but I found myself drawn to this myth, and the reclaiming that accompanies it as part of my Moon explorations. I decorated a collection of clamshells filled with pigment with charms, beads, and more glitter and then tied them around a bedazzled seal image. The charm has been floating around from the vision rivers to my bedside and is part of the ever necessary act of reclaiming my self from the tangles of relating.
When I finished the image of Clíodhna, featured prominently in the center of the river I petitioned her to support me in finding more pleasure day to day. She reciprocated immediately and continues to support in my quest to rekindle the pleasure pathways in my body.
The Final art ritual was to create Three birds of healing to adorn the Vision River. On the eve of the Dark Moon I created Three colorful birds with feather ephemera and joy charms from my stash. It felt good to stash bust and create a meaningful symbol for the birds at the same time. The three birds are HEALTH, DANCE, and BELIEVE.

New Moon Eclipse in Aries 3/30/25
The River Nith and the Roman-Celtic Goddess Brigantia
I knew early on I wanted to work with the River Nith for my second Vision River, tick-tocking between an Ancestor of my Dad to the ancestry of my Mom. The River Nith flows through the city of Dumfries, where I still have family today. My mom grew up there and I have fond memories of watching otters playing in the river. I knew the vision river had to be purple, so explored my stash to find something suitable. In the end I used leftover paper from the creation of a new Poet of Agency Painting.
The imagery on this river is simpler, with lots of cut water shapes flowing up from where the Solway Firth would be. My Goddess image is floating above the river, similar to the Selkie from River Lee (and this has become a trend I think I will continue for all the Vision Rivers.) The whole river is grounded by the quote at the bottom.
Make peace
with all the women
you once werelay flowers
at their feetoffer them incense
and honey
and forgivenesshonor them
and give them your silencelisten
bless them
and let them befor they are the bones
of the temple
you sit in nowfor they are
the rivers
of wisdom
leading you toward
the sea.source: Emory Hall X Trevor Hall - i have been a thousand different women (Official Audio)
The Goddess Brigantia
Unlike the River Lee, the Nith has no known Goddess associated with her waters. Any diety that may have held purview over the river has been lost to time. Since there was no obvious answer I wrestled with the Goddess for this river, spending a lot more time on research. After lots of digging I discovered that one of the few shrines to Brigantia is located on the shores of the Nith at the ancient Roman Fort of Blatobulgium. In the end I am happy with working with Brigantia as she is part of the lineage to Athena.

Art Rituals
I didn't realize at first but this Vision River exist during a Tidal Bore. All the cut papers and images, and even the order in which I pasted down the ephemera, travels against the natural flow of the River, flowing up from where the sea would be. Amazingly The River Nith has a Tidal Bore! A wave that surges up from the sea under certain tidal conditions. I have a feeling of a wave rushing up from the sea, bringing nutrients and new life into my creative practice, just as the tidal bore shifts the current of the river for a brief period into a roaring wave. I honored this discovery with the first issue of 52 Ripples - TIDE.
Brigantia is depicted in her shrine at Blatobulgium with an Orb/Shield, a Spear, a Gorgon Headdress. I represented the Gorgon Headdress with an image of a crystal eye that I have been hoarding in my stash FOREVER. For the Spear I decorated a Feather as a Quill, to represent support with the writing of 52 Ripples, INVOKED, and my Patreon Posts. And the shield is Golden for the initiation of the Solar Plexus, propelling us forward in our tasks.

New Moon in Taurus 4/27/25
The River Yare and the Egyptian Goddess Hathor
I took me a while to settle into the River Yare and Hathor for my third River and Goddess Kin, but I am so happy I stuck with these energies as they have felt so verdant and joyful for the Arrival of Beltane season. The River Yare is a major river around the English town of Norwich, where my maternal grandmother and her family hail from.
I wanted to come back into playfulness and joy with this River after the more serious contemplation of the Nith. The River Lee turned out so amazingly inspiring I think I got a bit in my head and started making ART instead of something sacred for my own sense of discovery and manifestation. I set all the materials out with more intention this New Moon and cut out the river in a striking combination of Red and Pink instead of a watery, cool color.
When I was stuck I reset and went back to the materials from a more heart-centered space, inspired by some old teachings from Turning the Wheel's Sacred Heart Art. I started with a paper heart and then the images and ephemera flowed effortlessly onto the page.

The Goddess Hathor
The River Yare is a major pathway of the Norfolk Broads and through strange migrations the Egyptian Goddess Hathor has become a patroness of the Waters. She is most often depicted with the head of a sacred cow, which felt fitting for an exploration initiated at the Taurus New Moon. I was especially drawn to Hathor in her aspect as the Seven Sisters, the star cluster commonly known as the Pleiades, and wove seven images of the Goddess onto my river.
Art Rituals
My main art ritual for this Vision River combined the workings of a ritual I began from the TIDE issue of 52 Ripples as part of the Digital Goodies perk for Khindness Patrons. The ritual involved noticing the ebb and flow of my inner tide of desires. At the Full Moon I worked with the "closest" desire, embarking on a walking ritual. Listening to the trees and my inner knowing I created hair prayers in alignment with dreams and the Seven Sisters of Hathor.

Inner Sovereignty with ORCHID
HAIL ORCHID, Phalaenopsis stuartiana, most refined, elegant, graceful, and heavenly of flowers, I call upon you to share your sensuous spell with me. Polish my best and rarest traits so that my magnetism attracts the best people and situations to my life. Let my shining personality sparkle to the surface and inspire my inner sovereignty to speak out with confidence and charm. Cast around me a circle of talent, affection, and love so that my days are filled with wonder. Aho! Hail and Welcome.
A New River for another New Moon
This Monday I am excited to embark on voyage into the ancestry of another River. There are so many to choose from as I've been blessed with many family members that have excavated the meanderings of my family tree on both sides of the family. It is also my wedding anniversary so I am curious to see if the magic of that commitment will weave itself into the discoveries. I hope you will join me in the creative coven to co-dream and co-create together.
