Full Moon Offering ♑️ Devoted
Tarot Prompts, Playlist, & Thunder Musing for the Full Moon in Capricorn
This Full Moon I am returning to Devotion.
The most beautiful thunderstorm just rolled in as I sat down to write this post. The July Moon is known as the Thunder Moon in some traditions, and I am feeling that with potent accuracy as the drumming rain outside soothes my senses. When afternoon storms arrive in the Colorado Summer they demand a pause and presence that always invigorates me. The flash and the boom. The smell of water on hot earth. The changing light, as moody clouds make way for ethereal sun showers. I am devoted to the shifting seasons and the powerful beauty of the natural world.

The cover for the Full Moon Playlist is a list of Thunder names and deities that I wrote while studying abroad in Paris in the Summer of 2011. I wrote "I want a word as deep and long and moving as a roll of thunder caressing the sky like the long lost lover." On the vision board I started at the workshop I led on Tuesday night I clipped the phrase "'scuse me while I kiss the sky." These are images and words that lead me back to how devotion feels in my body, and how I want devotion to anchor into all corners of my life.
What does Devotion feel like in your skin? heart? breathe? How does the natural world bring you back into purpose and presence?
Capricorn Full Moon Oracle Spread & Journal Prompts & Music
For years I made playlists and oracle spreads for my patrons on Patreon. I have compiled all of my Capricorn Full Moon playlists into one prime playlist on Spotify.
You can find the original Patreon posts below if you are curious about the previous years of inspiration. I want to share them here as an offering, along with the Oracle Spread I am using under the light of this Moon to guide my own learnings and understandings.
Capricorn is the Sea Goat, ruled by Saturn, bringing together wisdom from the Mountain and the Sea for deep integration and self knowledge. Saturn demands that we know our commitments and lay a strong foundation. This Full Moon shines with a key to devotion and finding systems for inner structure.
SURF Like a sea turtle in a wave, where can you trust the flow?
ANCHOR Like a fixed star in the heavens, what practice can you find stability in?
DEVOTE Like a perennial flower, what enchanting commitment ask for more?
Use these prompts with your favorite oracle or tarot deck, simply journal to the prompts, or let them move through your body as you listen to the music above. This offering is for you to take or leave as you please.
I returned to my oldest deck, The Celtic Tarot, for this reading, which was gifted to me by my paternal grandmother. This moon I am working with the River Clyde that flows through Glasgow, where my Granny’s side of my family has hailed from for generations. It felt right to work with the deck alongside the karmic themes of Saturn and Capricorn.
SURF Like a sea turtle in a wave, where can you trust the flow?
Even though Capricorn is an Earth sign, it has a link to the primordial ocean through the imagery of the sea goat. Similar to a turtle connecting land and sea, Capricorn energies also inspire a flow and integration of emotional waters informing concrete action. Flowing with the Sea Turtle for this first prompt we explore this side of Capricorn's magick.

XIV - Temperance (reversed)
"The angel of temperance appears as a mediator and a great healing force. A radiant vision of light and love she pours the elixir of life from one phase to another to balance an unequal load.”
My eyes are first drawn to the vessels in each hand, carefully and deliberately pouring water in a single long stream from one to the other. What is she mixing in those two identical jars? and then I am drawn to the sun behind her, with piercing white rays shooting out in many odd angles. Is the sun rising or setting? My first thought was setting and how the alchemy of waiting one dark night can make a situation look worlds different.
In reverse this card cautions against excess. It calls for turning towards something asking for healing and attention. It is connected to the story of Chiron, the wounded healer. For the past several years Chiron has stationed retrograde around this Full Moon, this year on July 30th. Like many outer planets he retrogrades annually but I notice for myself that the moments of transition in July and January are often times of great difficulty for me. There is a lot of propaganda in our world that if you just buy the right self care tool, like a manicure or a bubble bath or a new journal, all the ails of the past can be cared for. I see a challenge to that rhetoric in this card. I have everything I need, I am abundant. Instead of buying a new cure I need to redistribute the wisdom and resources I have to better facilitate flow and healing. Ultimately this card It is a beacon for peace on Earth and invites personal healing to be part of that peace.
ANCHOR Like a fixed star in the heavens, what practice can you find stability in?
The image I associate most often with Capricorn is the hoof of the Goat precisely anchored into the cliffs at the side of the mountain like a sure-footed chisel. There is a sense of knowing exactly where one is, just as our ancestors must have felt each time they looked to the sky and saw the stars like Polaris rooted in place. With light pollution and modern ways of knowing like google search, our ancient body systems have less waypoints to anchor to. This card asks us to create our own starmaps through stable practice.
III - The Empress and IX Swords
"In its highest form, art is a spiritual experience that enriches the soul”
Both of these cards have strong star energy, a synchronicity that brings goosebumps across my skin. The Empress stands in her map of stars holding a massive necklace, while the ninth sword pierces a star at its tip. Nine of swords is often considered a more malefic card, and in this deck it speaks to depression and harm. Tempered by the Empress standing in her power as Earth Mother, Venus, and Goddess of the Arts this card invites using craft and art to hold onto purpose. What is the art of your life? For me it's the most obvious course, as an artist, but for you it could be an artistry in cooking, coding, offering support to your friends, raising children or any other number of skills. Turn to that with precision and appreciation to build a strong foundation in the face of disorientation or distress.
I also want to share I've been exploring the idea of making a Waypoints folder as a place to turn when I forget my skills and practices. This idea came from Staying Human Now #2: Define your Waypoints. Currently my folder has a vision board of my Priority to be an inspiration to others, especially in finding their own creativity, and my values manifesto:
🎨 I create as devotion. 🦢 I adapt with grace. 🔎 I seek beauty in all things. 🌊 I rise with my community. 🕯️ I honor the unseen and take responsibility for my magic. 🍃 I give thanks for every breath, every brushstroke. 🕊️ I choose peace in how I live and how I create. 🔥 I follow curiosity like a flame in the dark. 📚 I learn as a way of life. 👁️ I serve a vision greater than myself.
DEVOTE Like a perennial flower, what enchanting commitment ask for more?
I started a podcast the other day that began with an artist sharing that she centers enchantment in all things. This frame of centering enchantment captivated my imagination and was a delightfully playful way to orient purpose and commitment. Capricorn and Saturn are often held in an incredibly serious light, but knowing our path and recommitting to it time and time again can be found in beauty, wonder, play or awe. Devotion isn't solely in the domain of severity.
IX Wands
"The card is one of great stamina and powers of recovery.”
Looking at the trajectory of these cards through the background, the Sun set, we traveled through the starry night, and now the Sun rises to add radiant vigor to the wands. We considered what we already have in abundance. We found stability in the artful application of our skills. And now we must commit without knowing the outcomes, trusting that winter will pass, and seeds will be planted, and through "strength in our convictions" success can be found.
What right in front of you wants more appreciation?
What inside you needs more of your attention?
What wisdom have you already gained that you could apply more fully?
The seeking isn't for something outside of your self, home, community, but a deepening into what is already known. Make an action step to put into practice all that you have already gathered, honoring your path by choosing devotion to the here and now.
