Heralding Spring with Robin
Chanting in Joy for the season of Ostara
HAIL Robin! Invigorator, Renewer, Grower, Changer! Share your freshness with me. Dance the dance of clarity across my vision. Help me shake the lethargy of winter from my limbs with your joyous energy so that I may move into the Spring with a vigor for creation. May I find delight, as you do, with the bounty of each moment. Let us sing sweetly at the dawn of this new day, this untouched instant, pregnant with possibility. Aho! Hail and Welcome!
Singing into the Swing of Spring with Robin
My bird ally for Vernal Equinox and Ostara is the classic Robin
I went round and round if Robin was too on the nose to be my bird ally for Ostara and Spring Equinox. I also considered Oriole, a joyful bird for moving past obstacles, and Indigo Bunting, the quintessential Bluebird of Happiness. In the end their magick felt more suited for Summer. After re-reading the zine I wrote in 2019 for Robin I was settled that this was the bird to share and honor for this season.
Singing a Song for Joy
Any time I listen to bird song while I create magical things happen. This mini ritual is another potent example:
Robin’s chipper song is one of the first heralds of spring. It is filled with the joyous thrill of new growth and fresh possibilities. Go and listen to their uplifting song and write a chant to remember the joy that swirls all around you.
MY JOY CHANT:
This Body
This Temple
is for joy
This Body
This Temple
is for remembering
This Body
This Temple
rings with singing thunder
This Body
This Temple
dances joy into existence
This Body
This Temple
is worthy and whole
This Body
this Temple
is for joy.
I let my chant flow out as a stream of consciousness. I did not edit or critique myself. I am especially curious about the line "rings with singing thunder." We had a sudden spring thunder storm last weekend, with hail and wild skies. My son was very unsure of the theatrics, but I reveled in the power and ferocity and movement of the hail then snow, the winds, and the dancing lightning and thunder. Mayhaps this is where this inspiration came in my subconscious. I listened to this youtube video while I channeled my chant onto paper. If you write a chant feel free to share! Here in the Chat or in the Creative Coven Discord Server.
